Last second Free Throws propel Bucs to 59-58 win at Roxbury

Freshman guard Joshua DeJesus knocked down two free throws with 2.3 seconds remaining in the game to propel MassBay to a 59-58 win at Roxbury Community College last night.

MassBay held a slim 31-30 lead at the half, which was quickly erased by RCC, as the hosts took a 34-31 lead less than three minutes into the period. It was a back and forth game until just under nine minutes to go, when the Bucs went on a run and established an 8-point advantage at 50-42. The resiliant Tigers would not go away however, and clawed their way back into the game, taking a 58-57 lead with 1:20 left to play.

After a wild last minute, which included a missed Roxbury 1 and 1, a missed RCC offensive rebound put back, a missed MassBay 1 and 1, and a Roxbury turnover, DeJesus got fouled going to the basket with 2.3 seconds left in the game. He calmly stepped to the line and made both shots to give the Bucs a one point edge. Roxbury would the ball over on the ensuing inbounds pass to seal the victrory for MassBay.

Sophomore guard Jafar Berry led the Bucs in scoring on the night, as he went 4-7 from three and finished with a season high 18 points. DeJesus chipped in 15 points, freshman forward Brayden Dunnebier netted 11 points, and freshman guard Michael added 16 reboubnds for MassBay.

With the win, MassBay moves to 6-5 (5-5 Region 21) on the season, while Roxbury falls to 4-8 (3-6 Region 21). The Bucs head to Bristol Community College on Saturday, where they will play their final game of first semester (1pm tip-off).
