Santos, Viatchenko-Karpinski named to All-Region teams

Two MassBay student-athletes have recently been named to NJCAA Region 21 All-Region teams. First-year outside hitter Priscilla Santos has earned Women's Volleyball second-team honors, while sophomore defender Alex Viatchenko-Karpinski has garnered third-team Men's Soccer recognition.

Santos was key to the Bucs success on the court this season, as the team posted their most wins since the program re-started in 2017. "It was a joy having a naturally talented player like Priscilla join our team this year," commented second-year head coach Tahirah Gibson. "She showed extreme promise from with her skill set since day one. Her background of playing high school and year round beach volleyball allowed for her to dominate on the court this season. We can't wait to see what she can do next season."

Santos led MassBay in kills, blocks, and points this past season, and becomes just the Bucs second women's volleyball player to earn All-Region honors.

Viatchenko-Karpinski had another solid season for MassBay as the team captain anchored the defense for the Bucs. "Alex always shows up ready to train and compete everyday no matter what," said head coach Jeff Braverman. "He is everything that you want in a captain and always strives to be a better teammate on and off the field."

"I am very proud of both Priscilla and Alex," added Director of Athletics Adam Nelson. "They are great examples of true student-athletes, who are having success both in the classroom and as valuable parts of their respective teams. We will miss Alex's leadership next year, but will are expecting big things from Priscilla as she returns for her second season."
