WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Guimaraes Earns Region 21 All-Region Honors
MassBay Community College middle hitter Maria Guimaraes has been named to the NJCAA Region 21 All-Region Honorable Mention Team, capping off an impressive 2025 season for the sophomore standout.
Guimaraes established herself as one of the region’s most reliable front-row players, ranking third in Region 21 in blocks per set (0.77) while providing consistent offensive production and leadership on the court. Her ability to read opposing hitters and control the net was a key factor in MassBay’s competitiveness throughout the season.
“Maria had a tremendous year for us,” said MassBay Head Coach Tahirah Gibson. “She became a leader not only through her play but through her energy and commitment to her teammates. She set the tone every day with her effort and passion for the game.”
In addition to her defensive dominance, Guimaraes was a steady contributor on offense, adding timely kills and strong serving that helped spark several late-season performances. Her all-around play made her one of the most well-rounded middles in Region 21.
Assistant Dean of Athletics Adam Nelson praised Guimaraes for the recognition, noting the significance of her achievement for the program, “Maria represents everything we want in a student-athlete,” Nelson said. “She’s hardworking, positive, and always puts the team first. This recognition is a reflection of her dedication and growth throughout her time at MassBay.”
Guimaraes’s All-Region honor highlights a season of progress for the Buccaneers’ volleyball program, which continues to strengthen its presence in NJCAA Region 21 competition.
