Men's Basketball Downs STCC in OT to Remain Unbeaten at Home
First-year guard Mason Lawson knocked down two free throws with no time left on the clock in overtime to lead the Bucs to a 103-101 win against visiting Springfield Tech on Saturday.
The back and forth contest saw MassBay trailing 49-43 at the half, despite hitting 13 three pointers in the period. The Bucs put the heat on early in the second half with full court pressure, which eventually helped them build a nine point lead with ten minutes remaining. STCC fough back however, and made some big buckets down the stretch to get back into the game and force overtime.
After a Bucs defensive stop with 7.5 seconds remaning, Lawson drove the length of the court and was fouled shooting a lay-up. The lane was cleared, and Lawson calmly hit both shots with triple zero's on the clock to seal the win.
Lawson led the Bucs on the day with 31 points, while fellow first-year guard Artem Segarra chipped in 24. As a team, MassBay was red hot from three, shooting a blistering 60% from deep (18-60).
The Bucs are now 12-7 (12-6 R21), and are currently hold the #4 spot in the region. Their next game is at home on Tuesday vs the 3rd ranked team in the nation, Northern Essex (23-1, 18-0 R21). The game can be seen live on Local Sports Porductions HERE.
