The MassBay Community College Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that David Lee has been named as the Buccaneers new Head Coach of Unified Sports.

Coach Lee has seven years of experience coaching wrestling and baseball at both the high school and youth levels. David was an Assistant Wrestling Coach for Brookline High School from 2017 – 2021 and supported athletes as they prepared for college both academically and athletically. While at BHS, the wrestling team went on to win two Bay State Conference Champions, along with coaching multiple individual Divisional State Champions and one All-State Champion. He also coached baseball in Brookline Youth Athletics system for three years prior to taking a head coaching position with Boston Prime Baseball for two years.

David is currently a counseling intern in the MassBay counseling office and will be graduating this May with a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lesley University. He is very excited to have the opportunity to support MassBay students on and off the court this year!

Under Coach Lee's leadership, Unified basketball practices are now underway in the Recreation and Wellness Center. If you are interested in joining, the sessions run from 12-1 on Mondays and Tuesdays. Feel free to come by the RWC to join, or email Coach Lee with and questions HERE

If you are not familiar with Unified Sports, here is the official description from Special Olympics:

Special Olympics is dedicated to promoting social inclusion through shared sports training and competition experiences. Unified Sports joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.

In Unified Sports, teams are made up of people of similar age and ability. That makes practices more fun and games more challenging and exciting for all. Having sport in common is just one more way that preconceptions and false ideas are swept away.
